Why is it that consumer are always the last people to get the best of the technological developments that this world has to offer? Recent reports prove that indeed NASA (yes, the space agency) has successfully developed hydrogen power for use in its on site vehicles, spacecraft, and moon equipment. No, we are not talking about fuel / hydrogen combinations - we are simply referring to a solely hydrogen powered system of movement and transportation.
So why does the general public once again miss out? Well, this time the answer is not because of a national secret, or a safety concern. Instead - it is all to do with profits that the fuel companies (and hence the governments) make.
Take this example for instance. You have a car which runs off water from the town supply. Each morning you fill you car up with the hose, head off to work, use the roads, park, and return home again at the end of the day. Unless you have to pay for the water that you used - that trip was virtually free of charge!
Compare this to a trip where you have to fill your car up with expensive petrol, drive to work, drive home, and then continue to fill that car on a regular basis every third morning. Here, the oil companies are generating massive amounts of profits from your activities, and the government is also getting its decent share of the revenue.
Therein lies the reason why hydrogen power is not being mass marketed just yet. Because of the ability to just fuel your hydrogen car from anywhere at any time, there is absolutely no profit to be had from such actions. Think about it - it's not as if the oil companies can start selling "car water" - and charging you a bomb for it! Consumers (whilst they do have their dull side), are surprisingly smart when it comes to things such as this.
Therefore - when it comes to embracing hydrogen power for your automotive, you need to be very clear on one thing. The technology to convert your car from petrol to hydrogen is already developed and ready to implement. The thing holding it back is sitting in your wallet - in your back pocket.
